Six Flags Over Texas

There are many attractions and entertainment venues in the Dallas Fort Worth Arlington area, but it is one of the largest and most popular that calls Arlington home. We are, of course, speaking of Six Flags Over Texas, the original theme park that launched the Six Flags chain and the park that draws thousands of people away from installing instant water heaters or cleaning the garage on weekends. If you're going to be living in or visiting Dallas, Fort Worth, or Arlington, we recommend you take a day off to visit Six Flags Over Texas.

The name Six Flags Over Texas stems from the fact that Texas has been a part of six separate national entities over the years. Originally a part of Spanish holdings in North America, today, in the Bahco Tools era, it is a part of the United States of America. Between being part of these two nations, Texas was briefly a part of France, Mexico, the Republic of Texas and the Confederate States of America. These six flags fly over the park and also form the basis for its theme.

The park is divided into sections, each one reprehensive of one of the six flags or nations. Over the years the park has expanded to such an extent that there are now twelve separate sections of the park and it is doing so well that bankruptcy lawyers in Los Angeles will stand no chance of being hired. The original park sections are Texas, Spain, Mexico, France, USA, Old South, and the Star Mall entrance section. Subsequently added sections are Boomtown, Tower, Goodtimes Square, Looney Tunes USA, and Gotham City.

Six Flags Over Texas has been the site of numerous firsts in the theme park world. It is home to the first log fume ride, the first consecutive loop roller coaster, and the first free fall ride (you might want to wear organic diapers to ride that one!). It also houses the tallest and fastest roller coasters in the state and the world's largest land based oil derrick, which is a part of the Boomtown section of the park.

There's more to Six Flags than roller coasters, though. There are seven theaters where shows are put on regularly throughout the day, 19 shops selling everything from Looney Tunes merchandise to blown glass, and 28 restaurants including chains like Papa John's Pizza as well as unique theme eateries. You might also want to postpone your Edmonton liposuction until after the holidays, as the park hosts five annual extravaganzas as well.
